Ontario HVAC Rebates 2026: Up to $7,500 Toward a Heat Pump

The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS) replaced Enbridge HER+ in December 2025. HRS pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump in an electric, oil, or propane-heated home ($12,000 for geothermal), and up to $2,000 in a natural-gas home. Income-qualified households can get a no-cost heat pump through Save on Energy. EcoFrost confirms which amount applies to your home and handles every rebate application.

How EcoFrost Handles Your Rebate Paperwork

Pre-approval is the part most homeowners miss. We do it before the equipment ships so your rebate is protected from program changes, queue caps, or eligibility hiccups.

1. Free consultation

Call (416) 835-4775 or book online. We confirm what upgrade you are considering and which rebate programs match your situation.

2. Pre-approval paperwork

We help you register on the IESO HRS portal and confirm program eligibility before any equipment ships. Pre-approval protects your spot in the rebate queue.

3. Installation

Our TSSA-certified team installs your new system on a date that fits your schedule. We document model numbers, serial numbers, and AHRI ratings on site.

4. Rebate filing

We file the rebate paperwork on your behalf, attach the installation documentation, and forward the IESO/NRCan confirmation when it arrives.

Ontario Rebate FAQs

What is the maximum rebate I can get for a heat pump in Ontario in 2026?

It depends on how your home is heated. Under the Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS), a home heated by electricity, oil, propane, or wood gets up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump ($1,250 per ton), while a natural-gas (Enbridge) home gets up to $2,000 ($500 per ton). Geothermal pays up to $12,000 for a non-gas home ($2,000 per ton) or up to $3,000 for a gas home. Add up to $100 for a smart thermostat. Income-qualified households can instead get a no-cost heat pump through Save on Energy's Energy Affordability Program.

Is the Canada Greener Homes Loan still available?

No. The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan closed to new applications on October 1, 2025 once its funding was fully committed. Homeowners who were already approved keep access to their funding, but new $40,000 interest-free loans are no longer being issued. For financing today, ask us about standard equipment financing options during your quote.

Is the Oil-to-Heat-Pump grant still open?

The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program stopped accepting new applications on July 31, 2026. Homeowners already in the program have until January 31, 2027 to upload their documents. If you currently heat with oil and qualify by income, you may still get a no-cost heat pump in Ontario through Save on Energy's Energy Affordability Program. We can check your eligibility during the quote.

What happened to Enbridge HER+?

The Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program closed December 31, 2025. It was replaced by Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS). Under HRS, a non-gas home gets the same $7,500 the former HER+ program paid for a cold-climate air-source heat pump (up to $12,000 for geothermal), while a natural-gas home gets up to $2,000. HRS also removed the pre/post energy-assessment requirement for the heat pump tier.

What happened to the Canada Greener Homes Grant?

The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant closed January 20, 2026. Pre-registered applications are being honoured through their original terms. New applicants who are income-qualified should look at the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, which in Ontario is delivered through Save on Energy's Energy Affordability Program.

Do I need an energy assessment to qualify?

Not for the HRS heat pump rebate. HRS dropped the pre- and post-installation energy assessment requirement for the heat pump and heat pump water heater rebates. You do still need an assessment to qualify for the comprehensive insulation bundle ($7,700 cap). We coordinate the assessment if you want to bundle insulation with your HVAC upgrade.

Can I stack federal and provincial rebates?

The main federal stacking programs have closed. The Canada Greener Homes Loan (0% financing) closed October 1, 2025 and the Oil-to-Heat-Pump grant closed July 31, 2026, so the large stacked totals seen in 2024-2025 are no longer available to new applicants. Today the HRS heat pump rebate plus the HRS smart thermostat rebate is the standard combination, and income-qualified households can instead get a no-cost heat pump through Save on Energy.

How long does the rebate take to arrive?

HRS rebates typically arrive 6 to 12 weeks after the application is submitted with full installation documentation. We handle the filing, attach the AHRI documentation and photos, and forward the IESO confirmation when it comes through.

Does EcoFrost handle the paperwork?

Yes, at no extra charge. We help with pre-approval registration on the IESO HRS portal before equipment ships, prepare and submit the rebate application after installation with photos and AHRI documentation, and forward confirmation emails as they arrive. You sign the application and provide ID; we handle the rest.

Are commercial HVAC rebates available?

Yes, through a different program. Commercial properties (offices, retail, restaurants, multi-unit residential) qualify under Save on Energy's Retrofit Program ($200-$1,500 per ton of cooling) and Custom Program (project-by-project incentives). The federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit also offers a 30% refundable credit on qualifying commercial heat pump and geothermal systems. See our /commercial-hvac page for details.
