Ontario HVAC Rebates 2026: Up to $17,500 in Stacked Grants

The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS) replaced Enbridge HER+ in December 2025. HRS pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump ($12,000 for geothermal/ground-source). Stack it with the federal Canada Greener Homes Loan ($40,000 at 0%) and the Oil-to-Heat-Pump Affordability Program ($10,000) for a typical oil-conversion stack of $17,600 in grants plus up to $40,000 interest-free. EcoFrost handles every rebate application.

How EcoFrost Handles Your Rebate Paperwork

Pre-approval is the part most homeowners miss. We do it before the equipment ships so your rebate is protected from program changes, queue caps, or eligibility hiccups.

Call (416) 835-4775 or book online. We confirm what upgrade you are considering and which rebate programs match your situation.

2. Pre-approval paperwork

We help you register on the IESO HRS portal and confirm program eligibility before any equipment ships. Pre-approval protects your spot in the rebate queue.

3. Installation

Our TSSA-certified team installs your new system on a date that fits your schedule. We document model numbers, serial numbers, and AHRI ratings on site.

4. Rebate filing

We file the rebate paperwork on your behalf, attach the installation documentation, and forward the IESO/NRCan confirmation when it arrives.

Ontario Rebate FAQs

What is the maximum rebate I can get for a heat pump in Ontario in 2026?

Up to $17,600 in combined grants for a typical oil-to-air-source-heat-pump conversion ($7,500 HRS + $10,000 Oil-to-HP Affordability + $100 smart thermostat). For a gas-to-air-source-heat-pump conversion, the cap is $7,600 in HRS grants. Geothermal stacks higher: $12,000 HRS + $100 thermostat = $12,100 in grants (oil-to-geothermal stacks to $22,100). Both scenarios can layer the federal Canada Greener Homes Loan (up to $40,000 at 0%) on top if you want to finance the rest of the project interest-free.

What happened to Enbridge HER+?

The Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program closed December 31, 2025. It was replaced by Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS), which pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump or up to $12,000 for ground-source/geothermal, with no energy-assessment requirement for the heat pump tier. HRS is open to both gas-heated and electric-heated homes (HER+ required a pre/post energy assessment and had a 180-day window. HRS removes both barriers).

What happened to the Canada Greener Homes Grant?

The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant closed January 20, 2026. Pre-registered applications are being honoured through their original terms. New applicants should look at the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (income-qualified, up to $10,000 federal direct or $25,000 in co-delivery with HRS) or the Canada Greener Homes Loan (interest-free, up to $40,000, available to all homeowners).

Do I need an energy assessment to qualify?

Not for the HRS heat pump rebate. The previous HER+ program required pre- and post-installation energy assessments, but HRS dropped that requirement for the heat pump and heat pump water heater rebates. You do still need an assessment to qualify for the comprehensive insulation bundle ($7,700 cap) — we coordinate the assessment if you want to bundle insulation with your HVAC upgrade.

Can I stack federal and provincial rebates?

Yes. Stacking is the standard. A typical Ontario homeowner upgrading from a gas furnace to a cold-climate heat pump can claim $7,500 from HRS (air-source; $12,000 for geothermal) plus borrow up to $40,000 at 0% from the federal CGH Loan. An oil-to-HP household adds another $10,000 federal grant on top. Income-qualified households can replace the CGH Loan with up to $25,000 in grants via the CGH Affordability Program in co-delivery with HRS.

How long does the rebate take to arrive?

HRS rebates typically arrive 6 to 12 weeks after the application is submitted with full installation documentation. The Oil-to-HP grant takes 8 to 16 weeks. The CGH Loan is funded as a single lump sum after the work is verified, usually within 60 days of project completion.

Does EcoFrost handle the paperwork?

Yes, at no extra charge. We help with pre-approval registration on the IESO HRS portal before equipment ships, prepare and submit the rebate application after installation with photos and AHRI documentation, and forward confirmation emails as they arrive. You sign the application and provide ID; we handle the rest.

Are commercial HVAC rebates available?

Yes, but through a different program. Commercial properties (offices, retail, restaurants, multi-unit residential) qualify under Save on Energy's Retrofit Program ($200-$1,500 per ton of cooling) and Custom Program (project-by-project incentives). The federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit also offers a 30% refundable credit on qualifying commercial heat pump and geothermal systems. See our /commercial-hvac page for details.
