Is It Time to Replace Your AC?

Watch for these signs. When two or more apply, replacement is almost always the smarter investment over continued repairs.

Your AC is 12+ years old
Repair cost exceeds 50% of replacement cost
Running on R-22 refrigerant (phased out in Canada)
Hydro bills have increased without a rate change
System requires frequent repairs (2+ per year)
Uneven cooling or humidity issues throughout the home

Common Questions About AC Replacement

How much does AC replacement cost in Ontario?

A complete central AC replacement in Ontario typically costs $3,500–$7,000 installed. A standard 14 SEER2 unit runs $3,500–$4,500. A premium variable-speed high-efficiency system costs $6,000–$7,000. Prices include permits, labour, and old equipment disposal. EcoFrost offers 0% financing for 6 months (via Financeit; standard rate applies after the promo period).

How long does AC installation take?

A two-person EcoFrost crew completes most central AC replacements in 4-6 hours. In most cases, you'll have cooling restored the same day the old unit is removed.

What size AC do I need for my home?

AC sizing is based on a cooling load calculation (Manual J) considering your home's square footage, insulation, window area, and ceiling height. Oversizing is a common mistake: an oversized AC short-cycles, creating humidity problems and wearing out faster. EcoFrost performs a full calculation on every estimate.

Should I replace my AC and furnace at the same time?

If your furnace is over 15 years old, replacing both systems together can save on labour and lets us match the new AC coil to your air handler. Ask for a combo quote; EcoFrost often offers a discount for system pairs.

Are there rebates available for a new AC in Ontario?

Yes. If you're upgrading to a high-efficiency heat pump system, you may qualify for up to 2,000 through Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (heat-pump-only, up to $7,500 ASHP / $12,000 GSHP) plus the federal Canada Greener Homes Loan up to $40,000 at 0%. The legacy Enbridge HER+ closed Dec 31 2025; standard central AC has no active 2026 rebate. Heat-pump replacements can qualify for Enbridge home efficiency rebates. EcoFrost handles all the paperwork.
