Furnace Repair Vaughan

Two kitchens, two range hoods, and a furnace trying to draft up a chimney against both. That is a Vaughan problem, and it is a safety one rather than a comfort one. Flat $129 diagnostic, waived on repair.

The Second-Kitchen Problem

Finished basements with a full second kitchen are common across Vaughan and especially through Woodbridge. It is a good way to use a house. It also puts a second high-powered exhaust fan into a building that was only ever designed to supply air to one, and a chimney-vented furnace is what loses that argument.

A second kitchen means a second big exhaust fan
Basement kitchens are a normal part of how houses are finished here, and they almost always come with a proper range hood rather than a token one. Two hoods in one house, sometimes 600 CFM or more each, can pull far more air out of the building than it can draw back in.
What that does to a drafting appliance
A furnace or water heater that vents up a chimney relies on a gentle natural draft. Depressurise the house hard enough and that draft can reverse, so combustion gases spill into the room instead of going up the flue. The furnace is not broken. It is losing a tug of war with the exhaust fans.
How we test for it rather than guess
We run a worst-case depressurisation test: every exhaust fan on, dryer running, windows shut, then check for spillage at the draft hood. That is the only way to see the fault, because it disappears the moment you open a door. A temperature reading at the register will never find it.

If you smell exhaust, treat it as urgent

Turn the exhaust fans off, open a window, and if anyone has a headache or feels unwell leave the house and call 911 or Enbridge at 1-866-763-5427. Then call us. Spillage is not a comfort complaint.

2-4 Hour Emergency Response

Vaughan is inside our core area, so emergency furnace calls run a 2-4 hour window, 24/7. The $129 diagnostic does not change rate overnight, on weekends or on holidays.

Three Different Vaughans

Vaughan is not one housing market, and it is not even one fuel. Where you are changes what we check first and what we bring with us.

Woodbridge, Maple, Concord
Natural gas throughout, mostly forced air, and the exhaust question above is the one that matters. Housing runs from 1970s through to recent infill, so we see everything from mid-efficiency units on masonry chimneys to sealed-combustion equipment on side-wall vents.
Thornhill and Islington Village
The oldest stock in the city, much of it 1950s to 1970s. Original ductwork is often undersized for the airflow a modern furnace wants, so a replacement sized purely on the old unit's rating tends to run noisy and short cycle.
Kleinburg and north Vaughan
Larger and more rural properties, and not all of them are on the natural gas grid. Propane and oil furnaces are both in service out here. They are different appliances with different parts, so tell us which you have when you book and the technician arrives ready for it.

Furnace Repair Vaughan - FAQs

How quickly can you reach a furnace call in Vaughan?

Vaughan sits inside our core service area, so typical emergency response is 2-4 hours, 24/7 including weekends and holidays. The diagnostic is a flat $129 at any hour and it is waived if you proceed with the repair, so a 2 AM call is priced the same as a weekday afternoon.

My furnace smells or the pilot keeps going out when the kitchen fan is on. Why?

That connection is the answer, not a coincidence. A powerful range hood, and especially two of them in a house with a second basement kitchen, can pull enough air out of the building to reverse the natural draft on a chimney-vented furnace or water heater. Combustion gases then spill into the room rather than rising up the flue. Stop using the fans, ventilate, and call us. We test for it under worst-case conditions rather than taking a single reading.

How do you actually test for that?

A worst-case depressurisation test. We switch on every exhaust appliance in the house at once, the range hoods, bathroom fans and the clothes dryer, close the windows and exterior doors, then check for spillage at the appliance draft hood. The fault only appears when the house is sealed and the fans are running, which is exactly why it gets missed on a normal service call.

What is the fix if my house is depressurising?

It depends what is causing it. Options range from a dedicated makeup air supply for the kitchen, to converting the water heater to a power-vent or direct-vent unit so it no longer depends on natural draft, to moving the furnace to sealed combustion at replacement time. We tell you which applies and what each costs rather than selling you the most expensive one by default.

Do you service propane and oil furnaces around Kleinburg?

Yes. Parts of north Vaughan are not on the natural gas grid and both propane and oil equipment is still in use. Mention the fuel when you book, because the parts and the diagnostic differ from a natural gas furnace and we would rather arrive with the right ones on the truck.

Which Vaughan neighbourhoods do you cover?

All of them: Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill, Concord, Kleinburg, Vellore Village, Rutherford, Patterson, Islington Village, Sonoma Heights, Pinewood and Elder Mills.

Which furnace brands do you repair in Vaughan?

Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Trane, York, Bryant, Rheem, Napoleon and Daikin among others. We are an authorized Lennox dealer, which means genuine parts and warranty access, and we install and service the rest.

Is it worth repairing my Vaughan furnace or replacing it?

Under fifteen years old with a repair below half of replacement cost, repair is usually the right call. Above that, get replacement priced alongside it. If the house is depressurising as well, replacement with a sealed-combustion unit solves two problems at once and is worth pricing on that basis.
