AC Installation Vaughan - FAQs
Our Vaughan townhomes are close together. Where should the condenser go?
It matters more here than almost anywhere. On the tight lots through Patterson, Vellore Village and Sonoma Heights, a condenser can end up a couple of metres from the neighbour's bedroom window. We look at the discharge direction, the distance to windows on both properties, and whether the mounting couples vibration into a shared wall. Getting it right at install is far easier than relocating a unit after a complaint.
How loud is a modern condenser really?
Quieter than the equipment it replaces, and variable-speed units are quieter still because they spend most of their run time at partial capacity rather than cycling on and off at full noise. The steady low hum of a modulating unit is much less intrusive than the start-stop of a single-stage one, which is worth considering when the unit sits close to a neighbour.
Are there clearance rules we have to meet?
Yes, and they come from two directions. The manufacturer specifies minimum clearances for airflow and service access, and the City of Vaughan has zoning provisions governing how close mechanical equipment can sit to a lot line. Both have to be satisfied. We check them at the estimate so the install does not run into a problem after the equipment is on site.
Can the unit go on a side wall or a flat roof instead of the ground?
Sometimes. Wall and roof mounting are options on constrained lots, though they bring their own requirements around structural support, vibration isolation and condensate drainage. On a townhome with almost no side yard it can be the practical answer, but it needs to be engineered rather than improvised.
Do I need a permit to add central air in Vaughan?
Usually not. The City of Vaughan lists adding air-conditioning units among the jobs that do not need a building permit. A permit is required when the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system itself is altered or newly installed, such as new ductwork, and that application needs heat gain calculations. We tell you at the estimate which applies and handle the application when one is needed.
