Rebates by Service Type

Heat Pump Installation

Up to $17,600

HRS $7,500 (air-source) + Oil-to-HP $10,000 (oil homes) + $100 smart thermostat + up to $40,000 in 0% CGH Loan financing. Geothermal stacks higher: $12,000 HRS + $10,000 + $100. The richest rebate stack in Ontario in 2026.

Hybrid Furnace + HP

Up to $7,600

HRS heat pump portion qualifies at $7,500 (air-source) in a dual-fuel install. Pair the hybrid system with the $75-$100 smart thermostat rebate for the easiest stack.

Standalone AC

$0 direct

No active rebate for standalone central AC in 2026. Switching to a cold-climate heat pump (same equipment footprint, same install day) unlocks the full $7,500 HRS air-source rebate (or $12,000 for geothermal).

Heat Pump Water Heater

$500

HRS HPWH rebate. Stacks with the main heat pump install and the CGH Loan if you bundle into one project. Standard tankless and condensing gas units no longer have a rebate.

Common Rebate Stack Scenarios

How EcoFrost Handles Your Rebate, Step by Step

1

Free in-home assessment

We measure heat load, inspect electrical service, review insulation, and pre-screen every rebate program for your eligibility. No cost, no obligation.

2

HRS portal pre-registration

We register your project on the IESO HRS portal before equipment ships. Pre-registration protects your rebate against program changes and queue caps. For the insulation bundle (and only that), we coordinate a Registered Energy Advisor pre-audit.

3

Pre-approval and quote

Once eligibility is confirmed, we issue a flat-rate written quote showing list price, expected rebate amount, and net cost. You sign off knowing exactly what arrives at the end.

4

Equipment install and commissioning

Permits filed, install completed, all systems tested and balanced. We document AHRI certifications, model and serial numbers, and energy ratings for the rebate submission.

5

Post-install documentation and submission

Rebate submission filed within 14 days of install. Tracking number provided so you can follow progress through the IESO and NRCan program portals.

6

Rebate paid directly to you

HRS, CGH Loan, CGH Affordability, and Oil-to-HP programs all pay rebates and loan disbursements directly to the homeowner, not through EcoFrost. Timeline is typically 6 to 16 weeks from submission depending on program.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about HVAC services in the GTA? We've got answers.

Five active programs cover most Ontario HVAC upgrades in 2026. The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS) pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump ($12,000 for ground-source/geothermal). The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers up to $40,000 interest-free for 10 years. The Oil-to-Heat-Pump Affordability Program adds $10,000 for households converting from oil heat. Income-qualified households can access the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (up to $10,000 federal direct, or up to $25,000 in co-delivery with HRS). The smart thermostat rebate ($75-$100) layers on top of any HVAC upgrade through HRS. A typical oil-to-air-source-heat-pump conversion stacks $17,600 in grants before any loan; geothermal stacks higher.

Up to $7,500 for an installed AHRI-certified cold-climate air-source heat pump in your Ontario primary residence, or up to $12,000 for a ground-source/geothermal system. The full $7,500 is paid for a true cold-climate ASHP (Lennox MLA, Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, Daikin Aurora, Bosch IDS, Carrier Greenspeed). Standard ducted heat pumps that are not cold-climate rated qualify for a lower amount. There is no household income test for the heat pump rebate, and the previous HER+ requirement for a pre/post energy assessment has been removed.

Yes, stacking is the standard. An Ontario homeowner upgrading from gas to a cold-climate heat pump can claim $7,500 from HRS (air-source; $12,000 for geothermal) plus a $75-$100 thermostat rebate, then borrow up to $40,000 at 0% from the federal CGH Loan to finance any remaining cost. An oil-to-heat-pump household adds another $10,000 federal grant on top. Income-qualified households can replace the loan with up to $25,000 in grants via the CGH Affordability Program in co-delivery with HRS.

Standalone high-efficiency furnace upgrades are no longer the focus of Ontario or federal rebate programs in 2026. The HRS program rewards switching to a heat pump (which provides both heating and cooling) rather than a like-for-like gas furnace replacement. If you replace your furnace with a hybrid heat pump system (heat pump + gas furnace backup), you qualify for the full HRS air-source heat pump rebate of $7,500 (or $12,000 for geothermal) plus the smart thermostat rebate.

Yes. The HRS program pays $500 for a heat pump water heater (HPWH) install. Standard tankless and condensing gas water heater rebates from Enbridge ended with HER+. The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan can also be used to finance HPWH installations as part of a larger retrofit project.

Standalone central AC units do not qualify for HRS rebates. However, a cold-climate heat pump provides AC plus winter heating and qualifies for the full $7,500 HRS air-source rebate (or $12,000 for geothermal). If your AC is at end of life, the math almost always favours switching to a heat pump rather than replacing the AC and keeping the furnace separately.

Yes if your home currently uses heating oil as the primary heating source. The federal Oil-to-Heat-Pump Affordability Program (OHPA) covers up to $10,000 for households converting from oil to a cold-climate heat pump. This stacks with the HRS $7,500 heat pump rebate. Oil tank decommissioning, electrical service upgrades, and supplementary insulation are also eligible costs under OHPA.

HRS rebates typically arrive 6 to 12 weeks after the application is submitted with full installation documentation. The Oil-to-HP grant takes 8 to 16 weeks. The Canada Greener Homes Loan is funded as a single lump sum after project verification, usually within 60 days. We submit all paperwork on your behalf and provide tracking updates as confirmations arrive.

Yes. EcoFrost handles end-to-end rebate paperwork at no extra charge. This includes pre-installation eligibility verification, IESO HRS portal registration before equipment ships, post-installation documentation with photos and AHRI certificates, and rebate submission. You sign the application and provide ID; we handle the rest. Final rebate payment goes directly from the program to you, not through us.

Enbridge HER+ closed December 31, 2025 and was replaced by Ontario's HRS program (higher amounts, no assessment requirement). The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant closed January 20, 2026 and was replaced by two successor programs: the income-qualified Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (up to $25,000 in co-delivery with HRS) and the Canada Greener Homes Loan (up to $40,000 at 0% interest, available to everyone). Pre-registered applications under the closed programs are still being honoured through their original terms.
